The Department of Biology in the Faculty of Science invites applications for a 12-month, limited term appointment (100%听FTE) at the rank of instructor commencing July 1, 2022.
The primary responsibility of this Instructor is to develop, organize and manage lectures, laboratory sessions and field trips in a manner that encourages scientific inquiry and maximizes learning opportunities for students. The Instructor hired for this position will be responsible for the lectures associated with both Animal Diversity (BIOL 2003) and Vertebrate Design: Evolution and Function (BIOL 3326) in the Fall 2022 term; the lectures and tutorials associated with Nature Conservation (BIOL 3601) in the Winter term; the lecture and lab exercises for the Laboratory Study of Fishes (BIOL/MARI 4080), and the lectures in the Winter term. This Instructor will also plan and deliver the lab and field trips associated with a Summer 2023 SEASIDE course. These courses are intensive 3.0 credit hour courses that can have durations of 2 to 3 weeks offering students the opportunity to learn in the field. This can include overnight stays tenting in the field. The exact course will be determined in consultation with the Director, SEASIDE Program but may be a course like Intertidal Ecology (BIOL/ENVS/MARI 3664). The Instructor may be required to perform additional administrative duties such as participating on committees.
Candidates should have an advanced degree in Biology or a related field and previous laboratory and lecture teaching experience; in particular, previous work with upper-level university students will be an asset. Experience teaching in the fields of animal biology and ecology, as well as engagement with the science education literature, will be beneficial in this position, as will previous experience with the Brightspace learning management system. Candidates must have demonstrated strong teaching ability, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. In addition, the successful applicant may be responsible for driving students on field trips in a 7-passenger van rented by the university, so having a valid driver鈥檚 license is preferred.

Salary will be according to qualifications and experience, as determined by the Collective Agreement between the Board of Governors of 最新杏吧原创 and the 最新杏吧原创 Faculty Association.
