Black Halifax: Stories from Here is part of the TD Then and Now program and utilizes the talents of African Nova Scotian poets, writers, performers and videographers to create a communal narrative that shows that Halifax, like any urban space, is alive with unseen histories, stories, and layers, that enable participants to make connections between the past and present. The project will feature the work of George Elliott Clarke, Sylvia Hamilton, El Jones, Afua Cooper, David Woods, Valerie Mason-John, Quanda Johnson, and Jacob Sampson.

Black Halifax: Stories from Here is a project of the Canadian Maritime Heritage Foundation and the James R. Johnston Black Studies Chair at ×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ in support of the Black Halifax Collective, a group of poets, academics and heritage activists committed to exploring and passionately expressing the richness of African Nova Scotia's history and culture.

will be launched at 6:00 this evening, at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, as part of African Heritage Month. (The 1st
week of March has become Black Heritage Month Annex.) The launch will both
introduce the website and feature performances by some of the artists.
