Many ×īŠĀŠÓ°ÉŌ““ traditions date back years, even decades.

The campus Mawioā€™mi, or pow wow, has only been an annual campus happening for three years now, but itā€™s built on a tradition dating back centuries, and represents one of the more colourful and vibrant days of the fall season.

The word Mawioā€™mi, translated from Miā€™kmaq, means ā€œgathering.ā€ Itā€™s meant as a welcome, a means of prayer, and community event ā€“ one thatā€™s open to everyone at Dal.

The event carries the theme ā€œThis is our way,ā€ connecting with the idealism of the aboriginal community, and is sponsored by the Aboriginal Health Sciences Initiative, the ×īŠĀŠÓ°ÉŌ““ Native Student Association, and ×īŠĀŠÓ°ÉŌ““.

There will be dancing, drumming and traditional meal, which kicks off the festivities at 11:30 a.m. That will be followed by a grand entry onto the Studley Quad at 12:45 p.m. and a flag raising shortly thereafter. For the rest of the afternoon, the quad will be filled with dance and song. (Rain location is in Studley gym.)
